An infection occurs when germs enter the body, increase in number, and cause a reaction of the body. Three things are necessary for an infection to occur: Source: Places where infectious agents (germs) live (e.g., sinks, surfaces, human skin)

Symptoms

• Fever (this is sometimes the only sign of an infection).
• Chills and sweats.
• Change in cough or a new cough.
• Sore throat or new mouth sore.
• Shortness of breath.
• Nasal congestion.
• Stiff neck.
• Burning or pain with urination.

Treatment

• oral – tablets, capsules or liquids that treat most mild to moderate infections.
• topical – creams, lotions, sprays or drops that treat skin infections.
• injections – given directly into the blood or muscle for more serious infections.
